WP41 Objectives

Summer School on the topic of social cohesion, social diversity and the quality of life Topics to be included measuring the quality of life; quality of life in different countries; quality of life in Europe compared to elsewhere n the world; quality of life a  policy instrument or a form of governance, the role of social cohesion in contributing to the quality of life and the quality of life for diverse populations.

WP41 Description of work

• Summer school during July 2008 at the University of Crete on the topic of the quality of life. The workshop will explore how theories can be related to empirical research and to social and public  policies.
  30 students will be invited over a period of one week.  Costs will cover their accommodation and food.  The summer school is co-financed by the European Sociological Association which will provide advertising and teaching staff.
  Each morning an international 1 or 2 experts will give a lecture on the quality of life. In the afternoons, students will have an opportunity to present their own work on this theme for discussion. Students will be divided into two groups according to their
  The format will be the same as the summer school conducted in WP 18 at University of Aberdeen in M23 (August 2007)  August 2007.
  Topics to be included: measuring the quality of life; quality of life in different countries; quality of life in Europe compared to elsewhere n the world; quality of life a  policy instrument. 
  The experience of organising summer schools both for the European Sociological Association and for CINEFOGO will contribute to how this one is planned and executed.
  A separate budget to include costs of accommodation, food and social programme has been prepared.
