The 8th PhD Network on the Third Sector and Civil Society meeting will be for the first time organised in Central and Eastern Europe on 22nd-25th of May 2008. Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania offers a four days seminar for PhD students from all over the Europe to discuss their thesis as well as to participate in theoretical and practical sessions given by renowned scholars from Western and Eastern Europe. PhD Netvvork Meeting 2008 is the third seminar mainly supported by CINEFOGO and ERSTE Foundation.

Started in 2001 the European PhD Network on the Third Sector and Civil Society has developed into a highly respected institution of the European academic community focusing on the third sector and civil society. The aim of the meeting is to bring together PhD students doing research on the Third sector and civil society. Up to now there have enthusiastically participated approx. 350 PhD students from more than 20 European countries. In 2007 the annual seminar was organised in Muenster after meetings in Vienna (2006), Rolduc (2005), Stockholm (2004), Dublin (2003) and Windsor (2002 and 2001).

Every PhD student is supposed to hand in an abstract on their research (300-500 words) and make a short presentation (approx. 15 min.) about his/her thesis. Every presentation is discussed in working groups of 6-7 students, facilitated by both a senior researcher and a recently graduated PhD student (usually one who attended the network in previous years). As the experience indicates, the brainstorming and reflective comments of facilitators and other PhD students help the student to have a fresh look to his/her research as well as find new horizons for research implementation. Meetings involve both regular participants and newcomers.

The deadline for applications is February 1st, 2008. The application form should include the following information:

• Applicants full name and gender
• Address (including e-mail address)
• Disciplinary background
• Institutional affiliation and supervisor(s)
• Working title of PhD project and formal start/end dates
• Abstract of PhD research (300-500 words)

Applications should be mailed to Egle Vaidelyte egle.vaidelyte@gmail.com.

Applications will be carefully reviewed by the organizers and facilitators.  PhD students whose applications are accepted will be notified until March 17th, 2008.
