Extended Deadline for abstracts of paper presentations

30 June, 2006
Abstract to be sent to Professor Thomas P. Boje, Roskilde University (boje@ruc.dk) and CINEFOGO Secretariat – Inger Vibeke Dorph (ivd@ruc.dk)

About the Conference

With this conference (November 15-17  2006, Roskilde) we  would like to address and discuss the role and organisation of the non-profit/civil society sector in Europe, the importance of the sector in the provision of social welfare and the different types of relationship emerging in European countries between the non-profit/civil society sector and welfare institutions.
At the Conference, we will present new empirical results from surveys on the organisation and development of non-profit/civil society sector from a number of European countries – e. g. Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Portugal. The data collected in connection to national surveys in the Johns Hopkins Comparative Non-profit Sector Study will be the primary data source for several of these studies. In addition to plenary lectures, the conference also includes sessions for paper presentation. We would like to invite scholars and especially Ph.D students to present research papers at the conference on a broader spectre of topics related to the organisation and development of the non-profit/civil society sector in Europe.

Papers

Papers on the following themes are particularly welcome:
- the importance of the non-profit/civil society sector in Europe – individual countries or comparative studies
- do we have different civil society regimes in Europe?
- how does civil society organise in different parts of Europe?
- the inter-relationship between the non-profit/civil society sector and the welfare state system
- the borderland between civil society and the business/corporate sector
- the importance of the non-profit/civil society sector for social cohesion and social inclusion of citizens
