WP13 Objectives

The objective is to follow up the results of the first phase with its two conferences with a final conference on policy issues and perspectives including scholars and policy makers. Besides developments on the national levels an additional emphasis will be on the link of citizenship with processes of Europeanisation and the European Social Model. A book about policy recommendations should come out of this extension.

WP13 Description of Work

After having documented empirically the changes and continuities in social policies and their impact on social citizenship and elaborated further theoretically these results, the second phase will be devoted to policies issues.

• We shall identify by comparing the welfare state reforms under way in different member States, those who have resulted in the better scope of entitlements and social citizenship rights. Probably Denmark and The Netherlands with “flexisecurity”, UK with “enabling State”…
• We shall investigate which social programs have been implemented in those selected countries and what are the social conditions of implementation.
• Transferability of programs to other member States will be under question.
• Is there an European social model coming out for providing for security in a post industrial area with a new type of European citizenship.
