The research programme of the Cities Research Centre covers a range of activities within an integrated framework of urban policy and governance. Projects within the centre – commissioned by the ESRC Cities Competition and Cohesion Programme, the European Commission, the Joseph Rowntree foundation and many local authorities together with major ODPM commissioned work on cross-cutting issues, area-based initiatives and local strategic partnerships – contribute to separate strands of work on leadership, joined-up working, local government modernisation, social exclusion, regeneration, neighbourhoods and community, and housing.

About Marilyn Taylor

Marilyn Taylor is Professor of Urban Governance and Regeneration at the University of the West of England and Director of the Cities Research Centre (United Kingdom).  She has been involved in research on community development, the voluntary and community sector, partnerships and neighbourhood renewal for many years.  Her current research includes evaluations of the Community Participation Programmes for the Home Office and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation Neighbourhoods Programme in the UK. Marilyn Taylor recently completed an ESRC-funded study of the role of voluntary and community organisations in the democratic process. She is Chair of the Urban Forum, an umbrella body for voluntary and community organisations in regeneration in the UK, a member of the Advisory Group for the Active Community Department at the Home Office and is on the Executive Board of the International Society for Third Sector Research. 

 She has written about public policy in the community and has most recently co-authored publications and articles on local governance, the changing relationship between the state, the voluntary and community sectors and the role of third sector organizations in policy processes.
