Westfälische Wilhelms-University, also known as Münster University, is one of the major research centres and one of the largest universities in Germany. The Institute for Political Science has a fine reputation in public policy research with special on European policy development. In addition, it is one of the few centres for third sector research in Germany. Under the guidance of Dr. Zimmer, Professor of Comparative Politics and Social Policy, the Institute focuses its work on issues of multi-level governance incorporating third sector organizations.
The scientific staff of the Institute for Political Science amounts to 20 and other staff, including project staff, number 16 persons. The institute is well equipped to participate in a multi-national research endeavour with special emphasis on the EU. In this regard, it is already involved in various international research networks, among those the Johns Hopkins Comparative Non-profit Sector Project, and the EU-funded Research and Training Network: Women in European Universities.

About Annette Zimmer

Annette Zimmer, Dr., is Associate Professor of Social Policy and Comparative Politics at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Münster, Germany. She holds a doctoral degree in political science (University of Heidelberg) and a lecturer degree in political science.
She has been affiliated with the Programme on Non profit-Organizations at Yale University, USA, and has served as the DAAD Visting Professor of German and European Studies at the Centre for International Studies of the University of Toronto, Canada. As one of the local associates in Germany, she is involved in the Johns Hopkins Comparative Non-profit Sector Project.
Annette Zimmer has published about non-profit organizations and the third sector in particular with regard to social integration, democracy and types and purpose of non-profit organizations.
