University of Genoa (CENPRO-23)

The Research Centre on Non-Profit Organisations, Genoa, Italy

The multidisciplinary Research Centre on Non Profit Organizations (CENPRO) at the University of Genoa, Italy is supported by academics from the disciplines of Economics, History, Management and Organization, and Law.  CENPRO undertakes teaching for and research about non-profit organizations with a focus on social economy.

Teaching was initiated with seminars on civil economy, which subsequently lead to the development of advanced courses on managerial skills and organization as  a joint endeavour of CENPRO and the Centre of Services for Voluntary Organizations (CELIVO). On this background, CENPRO in 2004 created a Masters Degree on legal, managerial and organizational problems of social enterprises.

CENPRO conducts research on non-profit organizations that addresses human resources management, social economy and the Italian welfare system. Since 2002, research has focused on social enterprises with the objective of contributing to the debate on the legal status of social enterprises. The results have been discussed at seminars and were presented at an international conference in 2004 that was held in relation to the "2004 Genoa European Capital of Culture".
