Socio-Political Analysts/Analistas Socio-Políticos (ASP-36)

The Socio-Political Analysts (ASP) is a private, independent research institute of social sciences that was founded in 1993 in Madrid (Spain). Its founder and head is Víctor Pérez-Díaz, who has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University and is Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM).  

The institute is devoted to the study and publication of work on problems concerning the relationships between the market economy, liberal democracy and civil society in the modern world. It carries out research, publishes books, articles and reports, and provides advice to public and private institutions as well as research training for Ph.D. candidates.

Research concentrates on the areas of civil society;  the public sphere and politics; European and international studies;  political economy and economic sociology; family, education, social policy and immigration studies; water, environmental policy and rural studies; and  regional policy.

About Víctor Pérez-Díaz, National Co-ordinator,

Professor Víctor Pérez-Díaz, Ph.D is Director of ASP. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University (U.S.A.) and is Professor of Sociology  at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM, Spain). He has been Visiting Professor of Political Science at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California, and Hans Speier Visiting Professor at the New University of New York, King Juan Carlos of Spain Professor at New York University (U.S.A.), and Visiting Professor at the Institut des Sciences Politiques in Paris (France).

He has been Fellow Member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (U.S.A.); Directeur d'Études Associé de l'École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris (France); and Founding Member of the European Academy. Víctor Pérez Díaz has been director of Social Research Programmes at various Spanish foundations such as the INI and the FIES Foundations, and he is the Founding Director of the Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Cíencias Sociales of the Instituto Juan March.

He has been member of a Parliamentary Commission on Labour Reform, of Government Commissions on Corporate Governance, and of the National Commission on Health Policy. He has served on various boards such as the Advisory Editorial Committee of PRISA, and the Scientific Advisory Committee of Transparency International Spain.

Víctor Pérez-Díaz has written extensively about democratic Spain, civil society, politics and the rule of law in addition to the future of Spain. He has authored more than 20 and co-authored more than 32 books.

 

About Juan Carlos Rodríguez

Juan Carlos Rodriguez, M.A.,  is Senior Fellow of Socio Political Analysts and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology at Universidad Complutense (Madrid, Spain) He is a Ph. D. candidate and his  doctoral thesis deals with German foreign policy towards the East  and German reunification.

He has co-authored with Victor Perez-Diaz several books on education in Spain, including general education, higher education and the future of education in Spain. Juan Carlos Rodriguez has also co-authored articles and contributions to books on the development of the Province of Galicia (Spain), information society.
