The Association for Middle Class Development (AMCD-8)

The Association for Middle Class Development (Sofia) is a Bulgarian think tank and non-governmental organisation. It seeks to provide an open debate about social status and mobility problems, development and prosperity of the more enterprising social-group actors. AMCD promotes research, action-oriented projects, policy analysis, educational and training programmes, consultations and public initiatives for advocacy. It seeks to strengthen the role of the self-employed, farmers, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), public and business administrators, state officials, managers, professionals, experts, intelligentsia and intellectuals.
It has extensive research-experience, in publishing and in organizing events. Its most recent research projects, which have been supported by various foundations and the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Commission include: Bulgarian Women in the Transition Period; Local Self-Government in Multiethnic Regions; Value Systems of the Citizens and Socio-Economic Conditions – Challenges from Democratization for the EU-Enlargement.
