The Research Institute for Non-Profit Organisations (NPO Institute), is a non-profit association that is devoted to interdisciplinary research on non-profit organisations. Affiliated to the University of Vienna,(Austria), the institute draws upon 12 departments and institutes of the university, from where 29 researchers in sociology, economics, social policy, law and business administration, contribute to developing and executing projects that pay attention to various disciplines and points of view. One of the leading NPO research centres in the German-speaking world, it seeks to participate in international endeavours, both through networking in the international scientific community and by developing international projects. In this regard, the institute was recognized as a Marie Curie Training Site for doctoral students in 2001. Finally, it actively seeks to link research and practice through communication, training, and provision of scientific support towards projects on non-profit related issues.
