The Department of Aesthetics and Culture, University of Aarhus Aarhus, Denmark
The academic staff of the Department of Aesthetics and Culture comprises 12 scholars who are organized around three main research areas: of the aesthetics of the individual art forms; interdisciplinary aesthetics, and cultural theory and cultural analysis/questions of modern identity formation.
The researchers have academic backgrounds in the humanities and in the sociology of culture and they contribute to national and international networks of research and teaching. In co-operation with other departments of aesthetics, the Department of Aesthetics and Culture hosts an interdisciplinary Ph.D. school that addresses questions of aesthetics and modern culture. Recent activities undertaken in co-operation with Ph.D. schools in the Nordic countries and Germany have addressed the issue of borderlines of aesthetics and the current tendency towards aestheticizing politics and everyday life. Furthermore, the Department is responsible for a full academic programme that includes a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree.
