The Department of Society and Globalisation, Roskilde, Denmark

Founded in the 1970's, the Department of Society and Globalisation is the largest unit at Roskilde University, Denmark. Multidisciplinary in its approach, the original aim was to undertake academic and policy oriented research in relation to public administration and business economics. Presently the Department covers the disciplines of Political Sciences, Sociology, Law and Philosophy and International Development studies and Public Administration. Research addresses a variety of inter-disciplinary fields such as welfare studies, democratic institutions and participation, network governance, institutional economics etc. It is responsible for social sciences teaching in the Under-Graduate Programmes and the Master Programmes on Public Administration, Social Policy Studies, Public Economics.

Its’ staff includes app. 50 full-time researchers and 20 research fellows who through their research activities are in touch with European universities, institutions, organizations and professional bodies, including European and international research programmes and networks. In addition to hosting a European Master Programme in Social Policy, the following research centres are affiliated to the Department: of Social Sciences Centre for Democratic Network Governance, Centre for Studies in Civil Society, Jean Monnet Center of Excellence.
