TV series on Citizenship and Democracy
Television series on Active Citizenship and the Development of European Democracy
Objective of the work package was to produce TV series on the subject of European grassroots movements. Originally 9 countries participated in the co-production:
- Denmark (3 programmes on student movement, peace movement and anti nuclear movement),
- Sweden (women’s liberation movement),
- Finland (anti deforestation movement),
- Poland (Solidarity movement),
- The Netherlands (Gay liberation movement),
- Italy (anti corruption movement),
- Spain (anti Franco movements),
- Czechia (1968 freedom movement),
- Belgium (women’s factory strikes),
- Albania (student revolt).
Albania withdrew from the production in the autumn 2006.
In the period up until February 2007 a total of 11 programmes, a half hour’s length has been produced according to the production plan. The executive producer has approved all programmes in coherence with the “Film-makers” handbook and other co-production agreements.
All the films have been distributed to the participating countries, and the European Broadcasting Corporation has taken the responsibility to market the series in the rest of Europe, and certain other continents.
Broadcast in Denmark will start in week 12, 2007. We have no update on broadcast dates from the other countries. But it is expected that the other countries will broadcast before the end of 2007 according to earlier agreements.
A second broadcasting of the series will take place in Denmark in the beginning of 2008.
