About the lecturer

Stephen Castles is Director and Senior Researcher at IMI and Professor of Migration and Refugee Studies at the University of Oxford. From 2002-2006, he was Director of the Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford University. Castles has carried out research on migration and multicultural societies in Europe, Australia and Asia. He has been a consultant to the British and Australian governments, ILO, UNHCR, IOM and the European Union. Books include: Migration, Citizenship and the European Welfare State: A European Dilemma (with Carl-Ulrik Schierup and Peo Hansen, Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2006) Citizenship and Migration: Globalization and the Politics of Belonging (with Alastair Davidson, London: Macmillan, 2000) Ethnicity and Globalization: From Migrant Worker to Transnational Citizen (London: Sage, 2000) The Age of Migration: International Population Movements in the Modern World (with Mark Miller, Basingstoke, Palgrave-Macmillan, third edition 2003). Migration and Development: Perspectives from the South (with Raul Delgado Wise, editors, IOM 2008)
