University of Gothenburg (UGOT-40)

The School of Public Administration & The Centre for Public Sector Research, Gothenburg, Sweden

Gothenburg University College was established privately in 1891 and in 1907 it became an independent university college. Today it has about 40.000 students, a staff of well over four thousand, and almost as many part-time teachers. There are approx. 70 departments in all, many of which rent facilities in the centre of Gothenburg in Sweden. The centres that are involved in the CINEFOGO Network of Excellence are:

The School of Public Administration (SPAGU)

SPAGU aspires to become a leading Scandinavian academic community of students, alumni, practitioners, faculty, and staff, developing and disseminating multidisciplinary knowledge about public administration and its environment. Above all, its’ aim is to advance the practice of public administration in Sweden and abroad, through excellence in professional education, scholarly and applied research, and through public service. Its’ research objective is to advance the knowledge base in the field of public administration through scholarly productivity, publication and applied research.

The Centre for Public Sector Research (CEFOS)

CEFOS undertakes and encourages research on management, steering, administrative organization, financing and evaluation in the public sector, particularly at local and regional levels. Innovation in the public sector is a prime focus. The purpose of the centre is to bring together researchers and groups of researchers from a variety of disciplines in a unified research environment.

About Erik Amnå,

from Gothenburg University

Erik Amnå, Ph. D., is an Associate Professor in Political Science and Programme Director of Young Citizens Programme and the Centre for Public Sector Research at Gothenburg University in Sweden. His main fields of research include local government organization, public administration, comparative democracy research, third sector research, as well as research on young citizens in 28 countries.

Erik Amnå has in recent years written about and published on political participation of youth, questions of representation and Participation, participatory and deliberative  democracy , citizenship,  social capital and welfare.

 

About Lena Lindgren

from Gothenburg University

Lena Lindgren is Associate Professor at the School of Public Administration (SPAGU). Her main areas of research are evaluation, relations between the state and civil society, popular adult education and democracy, public administration in the developing countries. Her current research focuses on the use of evaluations and their democratic function in the local welfare state.

 Lena Lindgren has published a report about the management of research, research on the council of popular education and articles on civil society associations.  

 

About Håkan Thörn

from Gothenburg University

Håkan Thörn is Associate Professor in Sociology at University of Gothenburg. His main areas of interest are political and cultural sociology, historical sociology as well as sociological theory. His research is situated in the fields of social movements, modernity, postcolonial studies and globalization. Currently, he is working in a project on the history of the trans-national Anti-apartheid movement, related to issues of collective identity, racism/anti-racism and the globalization of politics.

Håkan Thörn has in recent years published about post-colonialism and globalisation, he has written about the modern nation and of the dimensions of globalization in relation to the national state, democracy and social movements.
